A set of spectacular pictures have emerged showing a precarious mountain motorway carved out of cliffs in remote China by local villagers hoping to reach the outside world.
Located in Ningqang county in Shaanxi province, this 6000-metre-long (3.73-mile-long) road was designed and built by residents of Xifanggou, according to Xinhua.
Construction started in 2000 and finished in 2006.
Tourists can now discover the nearby Caochuanzi, a scenic area with stones forests and waterfalls with the ease of the tunnel

Driveways are carved from the vertical cliffs of Daba mountain, north-west China.
The road has brought Xifanggou villagers closer to the nearby Maobahe Town as it shortened the usual travelling time to 10 minutes to reach the closest bus stop.
There are 553 people living in Xifanggou village.

Xifanggou villagers used to climb over the mountain and walked for two hours to reach the bus stop.
The cement-built cliff road is hanged approximately 3,000ft high above ground.
However, the cliff road is considered as one of the most dangerous roads in China as the track can only fit for one car passing each time. There are also no barriers, safety mirrors and street lamps along the road.
The photos taken by Xinhua news showed the straight and steep cliff along the road, where villagers drove their cars in and out of the village. Some might shepherd their cows and sheep on the road.
In the past 10 years, tourists came to visit the villagers' magnificent work and nearby Caochuanzi, a scenic area with waterfalls and stone forests.
Guoliang tunnel is now considered as one of the popular tourist spots, offering tour and accommodation packages to visitors

Compared to the road in Xifanggou village, the cliff-hanging highway in central China's Guoliang village is more famous.
Guoliang tunnel has gained its fame in the past few years with tourists flocking to the 600-year-old village.
